Roemeg is expanding their fire retardant product range with two new materials: Sterker fire retardant floor panels and Mera fire retardant plywood. Both materials are standing out because of their extreme light weight compared to other fire retardant boards.

Sterker MED certified floor panels are made of Italian poplar plywood. Their tongue and groove connection at four sides makes them easy to install. Mera MED certified plywood is specifically designed for the furniture of ships, yachts, platforms etc.

Roemeg is specialized in fire retardant materials for the shipbuilding and offshore industry. Their collection fire retardant materials is worldwide used in walls, ceilings, floors and furniture. “With Mera and Sterker added to our Roelite panels our collection lightweight fire retardant materials is answering a growing demand in the market” according to Rens Schouwenaars, CEO of Roemeg.

Roemeg for Offshore Accommodation Platform Total: E&P Nigeria’s Ofon Phase 2 Nears Completion

By | News @fr | No Comments

In March 2014 Roemeg was mentioned on the Y&F website regarding the E&P Nigeria’s Ofon project. Below you can read the full article:

Total E&P Nigeria’s Ofon Phase 2 project is nearing completion, including the large new offshore accommodation platform OFQ fabricated by Eiffage Construction Métallique in Fos-sur-Mer, France, and in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Dutch companies Staco Europe and Roemeg supplied the complete package of accommodation materials for Phase 2’s OFQ Platform – their largest project ever.

Eiffage expects to complete commissioning by June with installation following in 40m water depths, 60km off the coast from Port Harcourt. Total, the field’s operator, plans to utilise the heavy lift semi-submersible Saipem 7000 for the installation.

Offshore Living Quarters Fabrication

In December, two large accommodation modules weighing 1,500t each left the Bouches-du-Rhône in the South of France en route to Port Harcourt in Nigeria. The living quarters fabrication project at Eiffage Construction Métallique – one of five global yards building structures for the project – has mobilised 350 employees in France and over a thousand in Nigeria.

The first phase of developing the Ofon field back in the nineties saw the installation of the existing accommodation platform. Ofon’s Phase 2 project significantly increases the number of personnel required offshore, requiring the new platform – known as OFQ – to accommodate 140 people in 69 cabins and a wide range of public spaces. OFQ will connect to the new production platform (OFP2) via a bridge. Total awarded the OFQ accommodation platform engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning to Eiffage Construction Métallique.

Dutch Companies Deliver Ofon Accommodation Interiors

During the lengthy engineering phase, the project called on the expertise of global subcontractors in addition to a significant element of local Nigerian fabrication. Dutch sister companies Staco Europe and Roemeg joined forces to pitch for the accommodation materials contract. For CEO of Staco Europe and Roemeg Rens Schouwenaars, the Ofon project proves the Dutch companies’ capabilities for global oil and gas majors.

“We had been promoting our materials for this project for 5 years already, when we were awarded with the first contract for the delivery of the sanitary units, windows and exterior doors.”

Assuming this would be all, they were extremely honoured when they were asked to furnish the entire accommodation platform and the initial contract was expanded. Total began developing Phase 2 in February 2012.

“At the time, we had no idea that we would end up delivering the complete interior for the OFQ accommodation platform,” Mr Schouwenaars says. All of a sudden Staco Europe and Roemeg were responsible for unit toilets, wall panels, furniture and upholstery, even medical and gym equipment.

“The [phase 2 project at] Ofon field is the largest project we have ever contributed to and it took us over 2 years to accomplish the work,” he continues. “Because the accommodation platform we supplied for was partly built in Nigeria and partly in France it has been quite a challenge for our engineering team. As you can imagine, the project has demanded tight coordination and communication in accordance with the local contractors.”

Successful Relationship Underpins Fabrication

The new Ofon accommodation platform consists of rooms, restaurants, offices, technical premises and the control room for the field. With Staco Europe and Roemeg joining forces, they were able to provide the complete package of accommodation materials. Aside from the financial benefits, it enabled them to tackle engineering challenges at a very early stage. Together they managed to develop the Ofon accommodation platform where 140 people can live and work at the same time, independently and safely.

“There was a pleasant and successful working relationship between our companies and Eiffage,” comments Mr Schouwnaars. “With our years of experience and flexibility, we always try to advise and unburden our clients in the best way possible. That was the foundation for a long-lasting cooperation.”

Large-Scale Offshore Oil & Gas Reference

“We are proud and pleased with the final result of this project,” Mr Schouwenaars says. “It enabled us to prove ourselves to be a reliable partner, capable of managing large scale overseas projects and living up to the high demands of a super major oil company such as Total.”

At the same time, he highlighted that Ofon Phase 2 was a sustainable development, sharply reducing Total’s greenhouse gas emissions by eliminating flaring during routine operations. The project meets the standards set by the Federal Government of Nigeria, boosting the regional economy and utilising local resources and manpower. Total Phase 2 is expected to come on stream later in 2014.
